HELEN, YOUR FUTURE SELF

WILL THANK YOU.

Hi Helen,

It was really great chatting with you last night — I’ve been thinking about our conversation since.

And I’ve come to a very important conclusion…

We have a problem.

You share the same name as me… which means I absolutely have to make you a very, very good upholsterer — my reputation depends on it!

Joking aside, you’re at a really exciting point. You’ve already dipped your toes into upholstery, but now you’re ready to formalise it, build structure, and turn this into a proper business. That’s exactly where the right pathway matters most.

So I’ve mapped out three options for you:

Option 1 — The Club

(Lead by price)

What it is:
Access to a large library of upholstery content — cocktail chairs, traditional elements, and a wide range of projects.

Pros:

  • Great value for money

  • Lots of content to explore

  • Flexibility to dip in and out

Cons:

  • No clear structure or progression

  • Can feel overwhelming

  • You’ll need to source or make your own frames and materials

  • If you stop, you lose access

My honest take:
It’s a good resource — but not the right fit for where you are right now.

Option 2 — Foundation Route (Slow, steady, structured)

What it is:
A structured, step-by-step approach focused on building solid core skills. We provide kits, guidance, and feedback as you progress.

Pros:

  • Clear structure and progression

  • Everything provided (no guesswork)

  • Builds strong fundamentals properly

Cons:

  • Slower pace

  • May not hold your attention long-term

  • Doesn’t fully match your ambition to move quickly into business

My honest take:
A safe and solid route — but I think you’re ready for more than this.

Option 3 — The Investment in You

What it is:
A full commitment to becoming a skilled upholsterer and building a business.

This includes:

  • Our new online course (solidifying all core skills and beyond)

  • The Techniques Chair Course (higher-level application taking your skills onto to chairs and sofas)

MADE BY YOU

Our latest course

This is a unique online course, where you don’t just follow along, you build your own collection of upholstered pieces. You can select 4, 6 or 8 (the full collection) pieces, to suit your style and your upholstery business. You then receive the kits to your home and follow the step-by-step online tuition. Everything is designed to make learning upholstery clear, achievable, and enjoyable. Crucially, alongside the practical skills, you’ll gain insight into how upholstery can become your business. You’ll be guided through:

  • how to price upholstered furniture

  • how to photograph your work professionally

  • how to find your first customers

  • UK domestic fire regulations

And importantly, you will have lifetime access to the course content and the option to buy more frames as you build a business. It’s so new, we haven’t quite finished setting up the web page for it yet, but it is due to launch after Easter and we are opening it up for bookings next week.

Choose the pieces (4, 6 or 8)

  1. The Contemporary Stool

  2. The Drum

  3. The Statement Headboard

  4. The Fluted Headboard

  5. The Coffee Stool

  6. The Buttoned Stool

  7. The Lift Top Ottoman

ADDING MORE VALUE

free club access

Because I feel strongly that this is the right path for you, I will also throw in:

  • Free Club access for 6 months

  • 30 minute Monthly 1:1 mentorship with me for 6 months

The Techniques Chair

Take your upholstery skills to the next level with Techniques Chair, a comprehensive online course designed to give you the confidence and expertise to upholster a wide range of armchairs and sofas. You’ll receive a wingback chair frame and learn how to upholster it in multiple styles, transforming each part using different techniques. One arm will be a scroll arm, the other a capped arm. One wing will be pleated, while the other features a studded facing. Along the way, you'll refine essential skills such as deep buttoning, slip- stitching, pattern matching, foam knowledge, spring systems, and box cushion making—everything you need to take on upholstery projects with a professional finish.
I appreciate distance is tricky so we could look to get a frame to you deconstructed and you put it together yourself. Alternatively, we could send pictures and patterns for the frame and you could get a local frame maker to make it up.

Why I strongly recommend this:

If you’re serious about turning this into a business, you have to go all in.

There is no Plan B.

Because the moment you rely on a Plan B… you’re not fully committed to Plan A.

I don’t run my business with a Plan B — we make Plan A work, come hell or high water. And that’s the mindset I’d coach you into.

With this route, I’d recommend you work to a 70/30 principle:

  • 70% of your time → mastering the core techniques (through the new course)

  • 30% of your time → stretching into more advanced skills (Techniques Chair)

This approach accelerates your progress massively.

THE Investment IN YOU

The new online course is priced as follows and can be paid up front (all the kits will be sent to you) or monthly, which will release one kit per month:

4 pieces £695 or £173.75/ month for 4 months

6 pieces £945 or £157.50/ month for 6 months

8 pieces £1194 or £149.25/ month for 8 months

The Techniques Chair is £1495 and includes the frame, back and seat springs, back and seat foams and legs, plus unlimited, lifetime access to the online course.

Final Thought

If price is the main driver, Option 1 makes sense.

But if your goal is to:

  • Build real skill

  • Gain confidence

  • Create a business

  • And do this properly (and faster)

Then Option 3 is the path I’d recommend.

Have a think over the options and come back to me with any questions — I’m here to help you make the right decision.

And remember… we’ve got a reputation to protect 😉
