Join us at our upholstery school in Disley, Cheshire (between Stockport and Buxton on the edge of the Peak District) for two days of making, learning, chatting, probably a bit of laughing, and that brilliant moment when you stand back and think "Hang on... I actually made that!"And because we know one size (or style!) definitely doesn't fit all, we've given you three different footstools to choose from.which one are you making?
the deep buttoned footstool
You know those gorgeous, deep buttoned pieces that look ridiculously complicated? Well, we'll let you into a secret; it's really not that complicated and here's your chance to find out how they're made. You'll build the stool up from new frame before learning how to make and insert the buttons. Then you'll spend time working the fabric into those beautiful pleats to give your footstool that wonderfully luxurious finish. You can personalise your legs to match the stool, using a choice of waxes or oils to finish the stool to perfection. It's a lovely mindful process and incredibly satisfying when it all comes together.Finished stool measures approx. 59cm x 46cm. the contemporary stool
Sleek, stylish and the sort of footstool that wouldn't look out of place in a rather fancy interiors magazine. A versatile piece that can be used as a side table, dressing table stool or higher footstool.
Don't be fooled by its simplicity, though. There's plenty of upholstery know-how packed into this one! You'll get stuck into prepping and applying an eco friendly foam substitute before applying your fabric, shaping and applying piping and a border. You can personalise your legs to match the stool, using a choice of waxes or oils to finish the stool to perfection. Finished stool measures approx. 53cm x 47cm or size up to the larger version coming in 75cm x 47cm. the Queen anne footstool
Taught to over 2,500 students, this is our original and much-loved weekend course. You'll build the stool up from new frame before adding your fabric. With an option to add buttons, you can make the stool truly yours. Although it may look simple, this one packs in the skills, especially when it comes to upholstering around the legs. You can personalise your legs to match the stool, using a choice of waxes or oils to finish the stool to perfection. Finished stool measures approx. 48cm x 35cm, or you can size up to large version which comes in at 70cm x 48cm. but I’ve never done upholstery before!
Brilliant. You're exactly where you need to be. You don't need any experience, your own tools or the faintest idea what you're doing when you walk through the door. That's our job!
We'll teach you how to use the tools, work with the materials and put everything together, one step at a time.
And because we keep our classes small, there's plenty of help on hand (and plenty of opportunities to ask, "Anthony, am I doing this right?!").
TWO DAYS WELL SPENT
Come on your own, bring a friend, treat someone to a weekend or just do something for yourself for a change. You'll leave with a beautiful footstool, a whole load of new skills and, quite possibly, the beginnings of a new obsession. The hardest part? Deciding which footstool to make and choosing a fabric!
We'll take care of the rest.
