Spend a weekend learning the craft of modern upholstery in the unique setting of Torr Vale Mill in the Peak District.

Over two days, you’ll build your own Queen Anne footstool from frame upwards, learning the techniques that underpin professional upholstery. This is not a demonstration or a kit assembly workshop — you’ll work through the full process yourself, guided step by step.

With just four makers per weekend, the groups are intentionally small. There is time to understand each stage properly and to leave with a beautifully made piece you’ll be proud to have in your home.

No previous experience is needed — just a willingness to learn and enjoy the process of making something well.

And over the weekend, you’ll spend some time with Paula and Maxine from Blackpop — hearing about their design process, asking questions, and getting a real insight into the fabrics you’re working with.

The Setting

The weekend takes place at Torr Vale Mill, a historic mill set within the Peak District landscape.
It’s a beautiful and calm place to learn — stone walls, river views and natural light, far removed from the noise of everyday life.
Lunch is included on both days and served at the Torr Vale Tap, the on-site pub and restaurant at the mill.
For those travelling from further afield, accommodation is also available at the mill, making it easy to turn the weekend into a relaxing short break. You can view and book the accommodation here.
