IS it JUST ANOTHER BORING ZOOM…?
ERr…NO!
HERE’S WHAT YOU’RE GOING TO MAKE…
I’m Anthony and I love making stuff! I’ve been making stuff now for over 28 years and it never gets boring. That thrill of using my hands to create something beautiful, which other people admire and even give me money for, is a buzz that never gets old!
Around 14 years ago I took a massive leap of faith and founded my own upholstery school. It quickly became the UK’s leading modern upholstery school, attracting students from around the world. Sharing my passion for making and teaching others to do the same is my life’s work.
In November 2019, I was diagnosed with MS, which has impacted my mobility. However, it hasn’t stopped me from doing what I love. Accessibility is incredibly important to me and teaching online allows anyone, anywhere to access high-quality upholstery education without barriers.
I don’t take myself too seriously—I enjoy a good laugh, often at my own expense. This approach makes my courses relaxed and light-hearted, creating a fun learning environment.
Outside of upholstery, I have an amazing wife, a wonderful daughter and an incredible dog (read the My Story section for more about them). When I’m not teaching, you’ll likely find me tinkering with my Land Rover Defender, which I’m currently converting into a campervan!
My philosophy? ‘Never, never, never give up!’”

HI!

what you’RE GOING TO cover…
-
Let’s kick things off with the basics and hit the ground running. We’ll send you a sample frame for a drop in seat pad for a dining chair. By the end of this first module, you’ll be able to confidently prep and upholster these to a high standard, unlocking an earning potential of around £35 per seat pad right out of the gate! But there’s more, the skills you acquire in Module 1 are not just limited to dining seats. They are transferable to simple footstools, giving you a product range from day one!
-
I designed this sleek and modern stool as a skill-packed powerhouse. In session 1 we delve into the prep, before you continue to work with a sustainable foam alternative, by cutting and applying to build up the top. During sessions 2 and 3 more skills will flood in, as you master applying the top fabric, making and applying piping and sewing and applying a border; learning backtacking in the process.
-
Welcome to this four-part deep buttoning (tufting) masterclass. First up, immerse yourself in a comprehensive theory session where I unveil my blueprint for deep buttoning success, adaptable to stools of any size. The practical sessions are where the magic happens – you'll craft your own deep-buttoned stool. From prepping and buttoning to precise fabric measurements, button application, pleating, and finishing touches – I’m covering it all.
-
Meet the first of two headboards – not just a piece of furniture, but a canvas for skill-building. Why headboards? Simple. They're a fantastic and accessible gateway to learning new skills, and let's face it – they're all the rage in interior design right now. Take your pick: style, size, fabric – headboards let you effortlessly inject colour and design into any bedroom.
This module is set as a single but you can upgrade to any size. Dive into the fluted style, and I'll walk you through some top-notch technical skills. And the best part? These skills are transferable, setting you up to conquer other fluting projects with ease.
-
The latest addition to this course, the Drum Stool is the perfect interior design piece! Perfect as a stool, coffee table or side table; this two-session module is the perfect addition to your growing skill set.
-
Say hello to the second of the two headboards. Whilst I’m teaching this as a headboard, square buttoning is a brilliantly versatile skill, which can be applied to sofas, chairs, footstools, benches and cushions! As per the previous headboard, you have the choice to upgrade to any size.
-
This module is a sewing masterclass. Wondering why you should master this technique? Well, it's not just about chairs; it's a gateway to a whole world of possibilities – window seats, camper van and caravan cushions, seat pads – you name it! While we've dabbled in some basic sewing in previous modules, now it's time to up the ante. I'll walk you through the entire process of marking out, cutting, and sewing a zipped, piped window seat cushion. But we're not stopping there – once you've crafted the cushion cover, I'll guide you on the professional foam prep, ensuring you can create the perfect box cushion.
-
Another new addition to this course, in this theory-only module I will be guiding you through the process of crafting a beautiful shaped headboard. This module will equip you with the skill to make your own headboard frame before showing you how you can create a standout, statement, shaped headboard with or without piping.
-
So you’ve learnt deep buttoning and know how to apply it. But what happens if you want to apply the technique to a king size headboard or a super long ottoman and your fabric isn’t wide enough? Well this is where van dyking comes in. It’s the process of joining two pieces of fabric together and hiding that join within the pleats of the deep buttoning. This is a theory only module, during which I’ll show you how to be able to apply this and open up a gateway of larger, more lucrative products!
